Many homeowners who keep a tidy and well maintained homes wonder how and why they still see the occasional roach. They don’t see any obvious points of entry and they clean up and wash dishes every single night but somehow the roaches still get in.
The cockroach comes in various species and is located on 6 of the 7 continents in the world. They have been around for an estimated 300 million years. That is 10 times as long as it is believed man has been around. They are nature’s best survivor.
So how are they getting into the home of a well secured and clean home? We asked an agent with pest control in Brevard County, Florida and they had a one word response: “pipes”. That’s right, plumbing pipes are the roaches sneaky little backdoor into your home. Even with fine grates over your drains, the smallest ones can still get in.
What You Can Do
Beside sweeping and doing dishes every night, you can actually place covers over your drains before you go to bed. At night, when the house is quiet, is when these creatures are most active.
In your kitchen you can place a drain stopper over the disposal. In the bathroom you can buy rubber drain covers. This will most likely solve your problem. If it does not then contact a pest control company immediately. Tell them exactly what is happening and what solutions you have tried. This should help them identify what the problem is and solve it quickly.
Your agent will probably use a combination of baits and pesticides to get rid of your roach problem once and for all. They will then suggest that you get on a monthly or bi-monthly plan.
